Villain Profile: Parasite (Rudy Jones)

“It seems like just about every supervillain has to deal with some villain or character that has the ability to steal, copy or mimic their powers and/or energy. Sauron (X-men), Rogue (she used to be a baddy), the Amazo android (Justice League), Blackout (The Flash), Absorbing Man (Hulk), Sebastian Shaw (X-men), Radioactive man (Marvel), and Arthur Petrelli (Heroes), to name just a few. But none are as visually iconic or better looking than the Parasite. There have been a few Parasites, but I’ll focus on the modern incarnation. For simplicities sake. Let’s get to it.”
FeedingTime
Rudy's getting some more juice. And Sup's
getting a hell of a hangover.
“The modern Parasite was a man called Rudy Jones. Rudy was a menial slacker, always focused on skating through life while putting forth minimum effort. He was a janitor for a branch of S.T.A.R. Labs, he worked just hard enough to keep his job. Charming. His life probably would have remained pleasantly uneventful, if it wasn’t for the intervention of that SOB Darkseid. Darkseid, remembering how much trouble the original Parasite caused Superman and the Justice League, decided to make a new one. He used his godlike power to manipulate Rudy’s mind, tricking the hapless janitor into looking into a vat of toxic waste for valuables. The handsome, charming, but slightly lazy Rudy was irradiated, transforming into a hairless, green skinned monster. Jones now had an intense, all consuming hunger that he could not satisfy. That is, until Rudy touched someone. The next person he grabbed was reduced to a smoldering pile of goo and Rudy felt a little full.”

Don't touch his hands. Or his body. Or look at him.
Just cover your eyes and walk away.
“Now, around this time, goodie good Martin Stein (1/2 of the fusion hero Firestorm), found out he was dying and decided to take the world’s nukes with him. The Justice League tried to stop him, as did the US government sponsored Suicide Squad. The League and the Squad tried to simultaneously stop each other and Firestorm. No one paid any mind to poor Rudy, whom was stuck in the middle of a smorgasbord and expected not to partake. He could only hold off for so long. He killed teammate Multiplex after sucking him dry, and was only stopped by the combined efforts of the Super teams. Poor, misunderstood Rudy was shipped off to Belle Reve Prison.”
“While there, doctor’s tried to reverse Rudy’s powers, but only succeeded in turning him into the familiar purple of the old Parasite, and increased his powers to allow him to absorb heat and electricity as well as “life energy.” He was further mutated in a fight with Superman, after sucking up a large amount of Superman’s power via his Heat Vision. He could now suck power from a fast-moving objects inertia, and also gave him teeth like a leech. Further ruining Rudy’s good looks. SO sad. Since, the immensely powerful and dangerous Rudy Jones has proven to be a constant threat to Superman and the Justice League.”
Well, I've gotten some more nightmare fuel.
“The Parasite sucks life energy from any beings via physical contact. If he holds on for a short time, his victims feel exhausted. If he drains a human completely, they melt into a pile of goo. Gross. He also gains enhanced strength, speed, stamina and so on based on the amount of energy he absorbs. If he touches someone with superhuman powers, he also takes on their abilities for a time. Roughly twelve hours or so, at which time he’ll need a recharge. Non-powered beings he sucks dry in a few seconds, for someone like Superman it takes several minutes to drain. MMMM, Superman’s powers. Ah-hem, where was I? Or right. He also absorbs a fair amount of a victim’s memories, and even their voice. Later versions of the character can shapeshift into whomever he’s absorbed energy from.”
“The Parasite’s major weakness is that he absorbs a victim’s weakness as well as their strengths. Furthermore, strengths of one don’t cover up the weaknesses of another. For example if he has Superman’s powers, and then drains the power of, say, electric villainess Livewire, despite having Superman’s invulnerability he’s still vulnerable to water just like Livewire. Furthermore, if he doesn’t have a steady supply of power, he’ll die of starvation like any other human.”
“The amazing, villainous, and charismatic Rudy Jones has appeared in a few DC series, normally against Superman.”

He get's the looks, what the heck?
“Parasite was a recurring villain in Superman: The Animated Series. His origins remain more or less the same in “Feeding Time.” Rudy was a janitor that was helping a criminal steal some chemical’s from S.T.A.R. Labs to get help for his gambling debts. They get discovered, and Rudy is forced to ride in the back. He’s doused in the chemicals, turning into the Parasite. He steals Superman’s powers and memories and does on a rampage. He kept Superman drained and locked away in the S.T.A.R. Labs basement for recharges. Superman eventually escapes, uses his new ‘anti-Kryptonite’ suit to keep Parasite from draining him and Kryptonite to knock him unconscious. The damage apparently knocking Clark’s memories from the Parasite. He returns in “Two’s a crowd” where they use his draining powers to get the location of a bomb from a criminal. In exchange for cable TV and all the premium channels. He appears one last time in “Double Dose” where that tease Livewire breaks him out of prison to help her kill Superman. Rudy decides he wants it all, so he drains Livewire after getting Superman’s powers. He’s defeated by a sprinkler system, overloading his stolen electrical powers.
“He appeared in Justice League episode “Secret Society” where Gorilla Grodd recruited him for his evil Justice League, the Secret Society. He was a powerful ally, but the group was defeated by the Justice League. He was a background character in Justice League Unlimited.”
“A Parasite, not specified as Rudy, appeared in Young Justice. He snuck aboard a travelling circus, stealing the abilities of the performers to help him steal parts for a Blackhole generating device. Despite being knocked around the first few times, the Team finally puts Parasite down using the Martian weakness to fire he absorbed from Miss Martian.”

How does he get creepier each time I see him?
“Rudy Jones, non-purple this time, appeared in Smallville season 8’s episode “Injustice.” He works alongside three other villains, Livewire, Neutron, and Plastique for Luthor Corp current CEO Tess Mercer. Their job was to find the monster Doomsday and…disable him. The team goes rogue after Livewire and Neutron were taken out by Mercer and Doomsday respectively. He drained Clark’s powers, but was forced to return them when confronted by Kryptonite. Stupid green rock. And while this is the main version of Parasite, they do use elements of him two other times. First in the episode 'Cool', where a young man exposed to Kryptonite develops the need to suck the heat from others. He targets several young women from Smallville before Clark puts the kibosh on him. And in the episodes 'Leech' and 'Asylum' has a young man whom steals Clark Kent's powers via Kryptonite and a bolt of lightning. The transfer is implied to be permanent but Clark is able to reverse it with more Kryptonite and more electricity. Yeah, not sure why the normal one wasn't fried either. ”
“Now, I like Parasite-”
Oh, my head.
Crap. He woke up sooner than I thought.
Ugh, this is the worse than my worst hangover. It feels like icepicks to my eyes. And I didn't even get the evening of adult beverages and fun company the night before. Why, why did you do that to me Rudy?
I wanted to give Blog writing a shot. They don’t let me have a computer in prison.
For good reason. Damn, I’m aching all over. Ah, I want to punch you in the throat, but I can't because you'll just drain me again.
Uh… want to finish?
Yes. You ass. I enjoyed Parasite until today. He’s a grotesque villain with a very dangerous power. His energy sucking power makes him one of Superman’s most dangerous terrestrial foes. If he didn’t also absorb their weaknesses, he’d be pretty much unstoppable. He’s yet to appear in any live action films, but they’ve pitched him a few times. In an expanded DC film Universe, the odds that we’ll see him on the silver screen goes up. He’s the power pilfering, physically unappealing, purple Parasite.
I’m not going to be invited back, am I?
H E double Hockey stick no. As a matter of fact, as soon as I figure out how to swing it, Deadpool is coming after you.
Oh, then I have no problem doing this. AH!
URG, IT’S WORSE THE SECOND TIME!
“Next time, Sauron the Were-Pterodactyl. It’s as weird as it sounds.” He’ll be fine in a couple hours, have a goodnight everybody.
